An Era of Phomomenal Growth

(2003-2008)

As the price of oil skyrocketed from $28 per barrel in 2003 to $140 in 2008, Bantrel found itself well-positioned to support its clients, and they ramped up their spending. In 2003, Bantrel created Bantrel Constructors Co. (BCC), to provide large scale direct hire construction services. The creation of BCC allowed Bantrel to complete its first fully-integrated EPC Project, Petro-Canada’s Edmonton Diesel Desulphurization (EDD). The project was completed on schedule and with a tremendous safety record. This success helped Bantrel win a major contract on the Petro-Canada Refinery Conversion Project (RCP) in 2005. The sheer size of RCP dwarfed anything Bantrel had previously executed. Bantrel was part of a contracting team that, in 2006, worked more than 2.4 million hours without a loss-time injury. The milestone—which earned Bantrel the inaugural President’s Award for Safety from Petro-Canada in 2007—was an immense source of pride for the entire company.

During this time Bantrel also completed the Suncor Genesis Project in Sarnia, Ontario, the Shell Scotford Upgrader Expansion 1 project in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, and began work on the Suncor Voyageur Upgrader in Fort McMurray, Alberta.
