All that hard work in safety is paying off for Bantrel Constructors at
the Shell Scotford Refinery near Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta.
Bantrel Constructors (BCC) was named winner of the Shell Vice President’s
Safety Award for the fourth quarter of 2009. The VP Safety Award is
presented quarterly to the contractor that shows exemplary performance in
the field of HSE. This includes sustained HSE improvement, as well as
commitment to and participation in the HSE leadership course.
"We were very happy to be selected for the award," said BCC Health, Safety
and Environment Manager, Don Thornton. "It is through the efforts of every
BCC employee that we are able to maintain an effective and sustainable HSE
Program."
There’s no doubt about BCC’s safety commitment.
"It starts with new workers participating in the Bantrel orientation, which
follows the site orientation," Thornton said. "This is where BCC extols the
virtues of its culture and solidifies the goals it seeks to reach. We rely
heavily on our front line supervision to implant our safety culture into day
to day activities."
"Our HSE Policy states that we not waver in our
commitment to our health, safety and environmental values," said Thornton,
adding "These values are integrated into every aspect of the work. Our
project management is fully engaged in the HSE Program and is visibly
supportive in keeping us on track."
