United Way of Calgary and Area awarded Bantrel the Engineering Challenge trophy and Award of Excellence at the annual Spirits of Gold Awards on February 10, 2010.

The Engineering Challenge is a friendly competition between companies in United Way’s engineering division. Nominees vote on aspects of each other’s campaigns and United Way officials determine the winner. This year, Bantrel finished first among several well-deserving nominees in the 500+ employee category.

The Award of Excellence recognizes exceptional commitment and leadership by workplace employees in United Way’s campaign initiatives. Nominations went to companies that have held innovative workplace campaigns for three or more years, consecutively earned a 75% or greater donor participation rate and led an active Leadership Giving program. Bantrel was given distinction for achieving a remarkable 88% donor participation rate and increasing the average gift in the 2009 campaign, despite enduring difficult economic times.

“These awards are a reflection of the hard work Bantrel’s committee and canvassers put into the campaign and our corporate culture,” says Greg Schneider, Executive Vice President and long time champion of Bantrel's participation in the United Way of Calgary campaign. “Everyone who participated in Bantrel’s campaign should be very proud of this significant achievement.”

Bantrel has participated in the United Way of Calgary and Area campaign for over 15 years. In 2009, Bantrelers took the Hollywood campaign theme "Lights, Camera, Take Action!" to heart and raised over $200,000 for their community. The week-long campaign showcased fun activities for all personnel including a trivia game, variety show, 50/50 draw, balloon sale and popcorn lunch. Employees also took part in three United Way Days of Caring where they made warm care packages for the homeless, Halloween treat bags for children with disabilities and appreciation packages for the 100+ volunteers at the Calgary Distress Centre. Bantrel's tradition of supporting the communities in which it works will continue with the annual United Way campaign in October 2010.
