Bantrel and Bantrel Constructors Co. scored well in recent safety audits
by the Alberta Construction Safety Association.
Bantrel received a 95% score while BCC received 94% in the 2009
Certificate of Recognition external audit of our safety practices. Each
company was audited separately.
Bantrel's audit took place November 18 and 19. Independent auditors
interviewed more than 30 managers and 60 employees about company safety
practices.
'Workers Are Well Informed'
"Interviews indicated that workers believe that the company's safety program
is part of the Bantrel Co. corporate culture and workers seemed enthusiastic
about participating, by being actively aware of hazards at work and at
home," according to an executive summary of the Auditor's Report. "We are
confident from the interview process and review of the documentation that
Bantrel Co. workers are well informed about their roles and responsibilities
and the company's expectation for safety."
The BCC audit took place over a three-week period in the fall. Auditors
interviewed management and site personnel at the Scotford Upgrader Expansion
1 project in Fort Saskatchewan. Auditors also pored through reams of BCC
documentation to get a clear picture of the company's safety record.
The successful audits mean Bantrel and BCC attain a Certificate of
Recognition, which allow both companies to experience the benefits of
the Workers' Compensation Board's Partners in Injury Reduction program.
"What it means for Bantrel and BCC is that we will see reduced WCB
premium rates and higher rebates if our safety performance stays strong,"
says Jeff Erb, HSE Manager. "Equally important, it sends our clients the
right message about Bantrel's commitment to safety."
