Bantrel Constructors Co. earned the Shell Flawless Startup Initiative Quality Award for its work in the U&O area of the Scotford Upgrader Expansion 1 project.

The Flawless Startup Initiative Quality Award is presented quarterly. To earn the honour, BCC outperformed other area work contractors during the first quarter of 2009.

The Shell Flawless Start-up Initiative (FSI) aims to ensure a successful commissioning, start-up and first cycle operation of the facility by providing more than 99.9% of the functionality on demand and ultimately reducing risk and losses to an acceptable level.

To win the award, the BCC U&O team scored the highest in the following criteria:

  • High participation in walk downs (no cancellations): BCC achieved 100% conformance
  • No significant flaws encountered: BCC achieved this objective
  • Closure of identified findings in a timely manner: BCC clearly prioritized items almost immediately
  • High participation in training requirements: BCC completed almost 1168 training modules. The modules are aimed at mitigating risk in areas such as EHT installation, tightness and cleanliness and human factors engineering and operability
