FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
[CALGARY, ALBERTA— March 3, 2009] Bantrel Co. today announced that it is offsetting its carbon emissions with Carbonfund.org, North America’s leading nonprofit carbon reduction and offset organization.

In doing so, Bantrel becomes the first CarbonFree® engineering, procurement and construction company in the world. As a member of Carbonfund.org’s CarbonFree® Partner Program, Bantrel joins a movement of businesses and organizations that are leading the fight against global warming.

Carbonfund.org supports renewable energy, energy efficiency, and reforestation projects around the world to reduce CO2 pollution and help hasten our transition to a clean energy future.

"Carbonfund.org applauds Bantrel's leadership and commitment to addressing the problem of climate change," said Carbonfund.org President Eric Carlson. "Bantrel’s carbon reduction and offset program serves as an example for all Canadian companies and is supporting our market transformation to a clean energy future."

Bantrel manages its carbon emissions in a number of ways: the company employs energy-saving measures in corporate buildings and facilities; aggressively promotes waste and consumption minimization; reuse and recycling of building materials; minimizes employee air travel and makes energy investments through Carbonfund.org to offset carbon emissions it cannot avoid producing.

“Environmental sustainability touches every part of Bantrel’s operations, from the way we design our plants to how we execute our projects,” says Bantrel Vice President Mike Gordon, who chairs the company’s corporate Environmental Steering Committee.

“Although we will always be tied to our traditional business lines, we understand that there is a growing demand for more corporate responsibility with respect to energy development, whatever that energy might be - fossil or alternative. Our new paradigm is to be responsible and be active: we have always had the expertise, but now we have the desire to be a direct part of the solution. That is why we, as a company, have been transforming our core value system to include environmental stewardship.”

And so Bantrel is actively seeking project development partners to help develop new carbon neutral energy projects. “This is a very strategic way that we’re challenging the status quo in the energy industry,” continues Gordon.

As well as reducing its own environmental impacts, Bantrel has been supporting employees with the aim of reducing their personal CO2 emissions. Bantrel offers carpooling incentives for staff, sponsors environmental workshops and prominently promotes environmental awareness using the corporate intranet.

In addition, Bantrel is the only company in the EPC industry that uses SEE-IT™ from Visible Strategies to manage and demonstrate its environmental progress in a visually-engaging and transparent fashion. Bantrel’s stakeholders can visit www.bantrel.com to see how the company measures up in areas such as greenhouse gas emissions, paper usage and environmentally conscious procurement.
