Meet Our Green Stars

'Keeping Sustainability at the Forefront'

Bantrel employees do their bit for the environment every day. Rhonda, in Administrative Services, tells us why she is so committed to the cause.

Green Star Rhonda Fielding

Tell us why you think sustainability is important for Canadians: Canada is a great country. Keeping sustainability at the forefront of everything we do will help to ensure we have a strong and beautiful country for our children’s future.

Tell us about some things you’ve done to help the environment: At home, we recycle our newspaper, flyers, cardboard, tins, bottles, plastic, take left over paint, hazardous materials to fire stations, use biodegradable products, organize errands to minimize drive time, wash my vehicle only once a month, clean furnace once a year, programmable thermostat, and have a maintenance plan to ensure efficiency, turn out lights when not in use, short showers, wait until washing machine is full before running (and use cold water), use power bars in order to turn off the entire unit i.e., television, computer, etc., buy sustainable seafood, use cloth bags for shopping, use microfiber cloths for cleaning, LED Christmas lights, buy certified organic food in order to support the “green initiative,” as well as good for my health.

At work, I carpool, use my own cup when buying coffee, print two-sided wherever possible, am a member on the HSE Committee and Environmental sub-committee in order to actively support my personal and our corporate commitment to health, safety and the environment.

I am always looking for ways to do more, and will enjoy this journey with my fellow Bantrel employees.

What is one barrier that prevents you from doing more for the environment? What would it take to overcome this barrier? My goal is to buy a Hybrid vehicle. I’m saving up for that now.

What can Bantrel do to be more environmentally friendly? Bantrel is definitely moving in the right direction, but one idea could be for us to reach out to others in the community and our industry and participate in environmental challenges similar to what we now do with the United Way. Let's show everyone the leaders we are.
