Bantrel Sponsors Honens International Piano Competition

Bantrel Co. was a proud sponsor of the Honens International Piano Competition, which ran from October 19 to November 3, 2006 in Calgary. A world-class celebration of music, this year’s event proved to raise the bar yet again with an extremely high quality of skill and performance exhibited by each of the pianists.

Bantrel presented the event Quarterfinals that saw 21 pianists, from countries including Brazil, China, Canada, Germany, Israel, South Korea, Russia, Ukraine and the United States, compete for hundreds of thousands of dollars in prizes, including an exclusive three-season Artistic and Career Development Program.

The triennial Honens International Piano Competition, which began in 1991, looks for young pianists who embrace the qualities of a "Complete Artist", demonstrating versatility, individuality and a keen musical awareness. It is recognized as one of the world’s premier musical competitions. This year, Minsoo Sohn, from South Korea, was awarded the final $35,000 cash prize as well as the artistic and career development program. The second and third laureates were Hinrich Alpers from Germany and Hong Xu from China respectively.

Bantrel is honoured to be a part to the next competition in 2009, having already committed to presenting the semi-finals.
