Our leadership team

Bantrel is led by a senior management team charged with delivering on our promises of safety, efficiency and quality. With a combined 250-plus years of experience in the EPC industry, our leaders take pride in serving our customers and honouring the values of our company.


Sig RuudPresident

Sig was named President of Bantrel Co. in December 2013. He joined Bantrel Co. in 2006 to lead the establishment of Bantrel’s legal department and subsequently led the risk management and prime contracts groups. Sig became an integral part of the executive team and was appointed vice president in 2007. He led the creation of Bemac and was named President of Bemac in 2012. During Sig’s tenure, he helped build the Bemac team and advanced the company to join Bantrel in the execution of its first EPC SAGD project.

Prior to joining Bantrel, Sig spent 20 years in the oil and gas and construction industries, as an engineer and as a construction lawyer. He earned his Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alberta in 1983 and his LL.B. from McGill University in 1987.


Doug BarthVice President, Project Director

Doug Barth joined Bantrel in 1989. He has held several engineering and management titles including Process Engineer, Project Engineer, Manager of Project Engineering, Manager of Engineering, Chief Process Engineer, Manager of Operations, as well as various Project Manager and Project Director positions. He was appointed Vice President in 2006.

Doug holds an M.A.Sc. in mining engineering from the University of Alberta and is a graduate of the Queen’s University Executive Development Program. He is a registered professional engineer in Alberta.


Paul GosseVice President, General Manager Calgary Operations

Paul Gosse joined Bantrel in 1998 and has held numerous senior management and Project Controls positions on various projects over the years including Chief Financial Officer, Corporate Cost Manager, Business Manager and Project Controls Manager. He was appointed Vice President in 2014.

Paul has over 20 years of experience in the EPC and fabrication industries and holds a Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree from Memorial University. He is a registered professional engineer in Alberta and is a member of the Board of Directors for Bemac Construction Corp.


Orest IlkiwVice President, Edmonton Operations

Orest has over 30 years of experience in the refining and upgrading industries, ranging from plant operations to project execution. Since joining Bantrel in 1995, he has held several engineering and management titles including Process Engineer Lead, Alliance Project Manager, Field Engineering Manager, Operations Manager and Business Development Manager in Bantrel’s Edmonton office. He was appointed General Manager of the Edmonton office in 2011.

Orest holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering and an MBA from the University of Alberta. He is a registered professional engineer in Alberta and a certified Six Sigma Champion.


Richard SalsmanVice President, General Manager of Calgary Engineering

Richard Salsman joined Bantrel in 2005 and has held numerous roles including Civil/Structural Discipline Chief, Project Manager for the Surmont 2 project and Project Manager for the Jacos Hangingstone Expansion project. He was appointed Vice President in 2015.​

Richard has over 29 years of experience in the consulting engineering and EPC industries supporting clients in mining, infrastructure, manufacturing, pulp and paper as well as both onshore and offshore oil and gas.

Richard holds a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from the Technical University of Nova Scotia and has served on the board of directors for the consulting engineers of Nova Scotia. Richard has also served on the Canadian Advisory Council to the Canadian Standards Council on the development of an international standard for offshore structures.


Tim LarsonGeneral Manager, Toronto Operations

Tim has over 35 years’ experience. He has extensive project and management experience across numerous industries including mining and metallurgy, oil & gas, nuclear, industrial gases and commercial development.

Tim Larson is General Manager of the Toronto office.

Tim holds a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from Carleton University and a Masters of Business Administration from York University.
